Abidjan Metro, OIF and Presidential Election on the Agenda for Strategic Ouattara-Macron Meeting

Alassane Ouattara is due to meet Emmanuel Macron in France on November 3, 2026, to discuss shared concerns, including the next secretary general of the OIF and the Abidjan metro project. The Francophone organization’s leadership succession is at an impasse, with a vote among member states being considered despite the risk of deepening divisions. Talks between Paris and Abidjan over technical changes and additional work requested for the metro, including by Infrastructure Minister Yacouba Hien Sié, are reportedly close to a compromise. The meeting comes after Macron’s planned visit to Côte d’Ivoire was postponed and is now expected in March.
