Activities paralysed after young man is killed in Lugushwa, South Kivu

Socio-economic activity has been halted in Lugushwa, in Mwenga territory, since Safa was killed during the night of Tuesday, October 20, into Wednesday, October 21. Local civil society says a Wazalendo fighter allegedly shot him twice as he returned from watching a Champions League match; he later died at Mapale hospital. Residents protested insecurity, while schools, shops, markets and transport remained closed and the FARDC tried to contain the crowd. Warning shots were heard in Lugushwa and Mapale, and residents fear tensions could worsen and reprisals could follow.
