ADC judgment could cause civil war if mishandled, Amaechi warns

Rotimi Amaechi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, warned that a Federal High Court judgment against the party’s leadership could trigger unrest if mishandled. Justice Peter Lifu’s ruling invalidated the National Working Committee led by David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola’s appointment as national secretary, and the process that selected Atiku Abubakar as the ADC’s 2027 presidential candidate. Amaechi said the party had no internal divisions and accused opponents, including the APC, of trying to create a crisis; he said he, Atiku and the party chairman urged members to lower tensions. Reflecting on his loss in the 2023 APC presidential primaries, Amaechi said his mistake was listening to the late Muhammadu Buhari.
