AES Biometric Passport: Tiani, First Nigerien Enrolled in Identity Files

On July 16, 2026, General Abdourahamane Tiani, head of state of Niger, enrolled for the new biometric passport of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), becoming the first Nigerien citizen to obtain this document. This highly secure passport replaces old analog models and is part of the harmonization of identity documents among Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali, initiated in August 2025. The project involved expertise from Société Al Itsal Aljadid and its local partner Hasdi. The new passport meets ICAO standards and will facilitate international travel for Nigeriens.
