AFCON: CAF confirms competitions will remain biennial

The Confederation of African Football has abandoned plans to hold the Africa Cup of Nations every four years, with its executive committee unanimously deciding to retain the biennial schedule. CAF president Patrice Motsepe cited the need to protect African football’s interests and secure funding for the development of continental competitions. The next tournament will be held in 2027 in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, followed by editions scheduled for 2028, 2031 and 2033, partly to avoid clashing with the 2030 World Cup.
