Less than a year after announcing a major change to hold the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) every four years, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) may revert to organizing it every two years. CAF President Patrice Motsepe confirmed that this possibility is under review during a strategic conference in Cape Verde. The initial decision, announced in December 2025, faced strong criticism for breaking nearly 70 years of tradition of biennial tournaments and was seen as catering to FIFA and European clubs' interests.
