Africa - AFCON: CAF consults its 54 federations on a possible return to a two-year cycle

The Confederation of African Football has asked its 54 member federations whether they want to keep the Africa Cup of Nations on a four-year cycle or return to a biennial tournament. Federations have until October 28, 2026, to respond, with a decision expected at the CAF General Assembly in Abuja, Nigeria, on November 21. In December 2025, Patrice Motsepe announced that the tournament would move to a four-year cycle from 2028 without consulting the federations.
