The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which started in Ituri province, has resulted in over 3,500 deaths from more than 7,200 cases. Africa CDC director general Jean Kaseya stated that no one should claim the outbreak is under control, despite optimistic comments from the WHO. Currently, there is no approved vaccine or treatment for the Bundibugyo strain responsible for this outbreak.
