African youth as the 7th region of African Union

In February 2026, at the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly in Addis Ababa, a proposal was made to recognize African youth as the seventh region of the Union. Over a thousand young Africans affirmed this call during an event in Johannesburg on June 16. While the idea was well received, it is crucial to avoid the recognition becoming a mere symbol without real transformation. Youth, who constitute over 60% of Africa's population, must gain a voice, resources, and real power.
