The United States has imposed economic sanctions on former DR Congo President Joseph Kabila due to his alleged support for the armed group AECM23. These sanctions, announced on April 30, include freezing his assets in the U.S. and prohibiting any entity owned more than 50% by him. Kabila was sentenced in absentia to death in September 2025 for complicity with the AECM23 rebellion, which aims to overthrow the Congolese government.
