A deadly fire broke out during a wedding ceremony in Kinshasa on the night of September 4 to 5, 2026, resulting in 22 deaths according to the mayor of Lingwala, although the government reported 12 fatalities. In response, Deputy Prime Minister of the Interior, Jacquemain Shabani, ordered a systematic inspection of event venues and immediate closure of establishments not meeting safety standards. A report on this inspection is expected within 15 days for the city of Kinshasa.
