Sudan: Return to Khartoum Turns to Disillusion for Millions of Residents

Since the army regained control of Khartoum in 2025, around 2.7 million people have returned to the capital despite harsh living conditions. Residents continue to suffer from prolonged power and water outages, high unemployment, and rising prices, hampering recovery efforts. Some, like businessman Emad Khaled, have chosen to leave the city for Egypt due to the unbearable living conditions.
