Air defense: Tehran wants Russian S-400s, according to Iranian official

Iran is reportedly seeking to buy Russian S-400 air-defense systems, according to an Iranian official cited by The Telegraph on November 6, 2026. The request was said to be central to a letter delivered to Vladimir Putin in Moscow on November 5 by Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, on behalf of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. Rezaei described talks on regional security and said Iran would not reopen the Strait of Hormuz or negotiate with the United States until seven Iranian conditions were met. Russia has yet to follow through on a possible S-400 delivery, while Iran’s military said on October 31 that Tehran had bought Su-35 fighter jets expected after the war.
