Air raids, conscripts and China: How Myanmar’s military is regaining ground

Rebel fighters abandoned the strategic town of Falam in Myanmar in April after enduring over 2,500 airstrikes and a ground assault by around 1,000 troops. The fall of Falam, which controlled a key trade route to the Indian border, marked a strategic victory for the military. Three more towns in Chin also fell, allowing the military to claim control of the northern part of the state.
