Alaafin is the number one ruler in Yorubaland, says Oba Owoade

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, says history and the old Oyo Empire’s contribution to Yoruba civilisation support his claim to be the number one traditional ruler in Yorubaland. He says he is not competing with other monarchs, including the Ooni of Ife, and believes Oyo’s success would bring honour to the Yoruba people as a whole. Owoade says the three-day Oyo Empire Day celebration is expected to attract about 40,000 people and will include a Hall of Fame recognising contributions to Yoruba history and culture. He also voiced optimism about Oyo infrastructure plans, including a proposed circular road connecting areas such as Infinity and Sabo.
