Alara Stool: Aramoko Kingmakers Seek Intervention from the Ooni and Oyebanji

Kingmakers in Aramoko-Ekiti, Ekiti State, are asking the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, and Governor Biodun Oyebanji to resolve the selection of a new Alara, suspended for six months. The process began in April 2026 under the town’s chieftaincy declaration and state law, and ended in a six-to-six voting tie among the 12 kingmakers after three princes were shortlisted through Ifa divination. A second vote was not held after the Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs postponed the process, and the council says its appeals to the government have gone unanswered. The kingmakers say the vacant stool is disrupting traditional institutions, festivals and rites, and want permission to reconvene and complete the selection.
