Algeria: 30 years in prison sought for the three former FAF presidents

Prosecutors sought 10 years in prison for each of the Algerian Football Federation’s three former presidents: Kheïreddine Zetchi, Charaf-Eddine Amara and Djahid Zefizef. The requests were made on October 15 at the Sidi M’Hamed court in Algiers during the trial of 19 people accused of alleged financial irregularities at the federation. Prosecutors also sought prison terms of five to seven years for other officials, while the Treasury’s legal representative is claiming 90 billion centimes in damages. The requests are not a verdict, and the defendants remain presumed innocent.

Omar arrived in the United States in 1995 after fleeing Somalia’s civil war and spending years in a refugee camp in Kenya; authorities could seek to revoke her citizenship if it was obtained unlawfully.

DRC: Suspended Ensemble pour la République Spokesperson Hervé Diakiese Steps Back from the Party

Hervé Diakiese Kyungu, a lawyer and suspended spokesperson for Ensemble pour la République, has told Moïse Katumbi he is temporarily stepping back from the party to focus on sensitive legal proceedings. Party figures Olivier Kamitatu and MP Dominique Munongo regretted his temporary departure. Diakiese represents Congolese plaintiffs in a money-laundering investigation involving people close to President Félix Tshisekedi; Belgian authorities conducted searches in Brussels and the Brabant provinces on October 14.
