Algeria: Death penalty, Amnesty International urges not to resume executions

Amnesty International urged the Algerian government to abandon its plan to resume executions for death row inmates. This initiative was launched after President Abdelmadjid Tebboune requested amendments to the penal code to impose the death penalty on those responsible for forest fires and child kidnappers. Algeria has not carried out executions since 1993, despite death sentences being handed down in terrorism-related cases.
