Amadeus opens up about his strict father: “He was very demanding”

In an interview with Le Soleil, Senegalese singer Amadeus, whose real name is Saliou Samb, says his father demanded strong school results and made certain permissions, such as attending concerts, conditional on his grades. He recalls being top of his class several times and learning to balance his early passion for rap with his studies. That discipline continued through his studies at Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis, where he earned a degree in communication. He also describes a happy childhood and a family whose varied musical tastes, from xassidas to rap by Fou Malade and Xuman, helped shape his artistic identity.
