Aminata Mbengue Ndiaye to Appear Before a Judge Over Her Removal from the Socialist Party

Aminata Mbengue Ndiaye, interim secretary-general of Senegal’s Socialist Party since Ousmane Tanor Dieng’s death in May 2019, is due to appear before a summary proceedings judge on November 2. Young party members, including Daour Sagna, Amadou Sow and Birahim Camara, have launched proceedings to remove her, arguing that her interim tenure has lasted too long and that she has failed to organize a party congress. The summons, served by bailiff Me Abou Sall on behalf of lawyer Me Cheikh Ahmadou Ndiaye, cites the expiry in 2018 of mandates arising from the 2014 congress and party rules requiring congresses and the renewal of party structures every four years.

MRC–Honourable Ngo Issi dispute: Me Sikati calls for a “mental maturity certificate” for legislative candidates

Cameroonian lawyer Me Sikati, who is close to the MRC, criticized a Facebook post by Rolande Ngo Issi, a PCRN deputy for Nyong-et-Kellé and a member of the Higher Judicial Council. Sikati called her remarks childish and polemically suggested that candidates for parliamentary elections should provide a “mental maturity certificate.” No such requirement is currently established in the electoral rules; Sikati’s response followed similar criticism from Mamadou Mota.

Fils Mukoko’s remarks: Aimé Boji Sangara rejects violence as a way to resolve diplomatic tensions and calls for embassies in Kinshasa to be secured

National Assembly President Aimé Boji Sangara condemned threats by Fils Mukoko, former deputy director-general of Kinshasa’s RASKIN, against Westerners and their diplomatic missions in the city. He said tensions between states must be resolved diplomatically and called for the protection of embassies and foreign nationals in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Sangara backed measures taken against Mukoko, including an 88-day media ban imposed by the CSAC and a judicial investigation, and called for the law to be applied swiftly regardless of political affiliation. Mukoko was suspended and then dismissed from RASKIN on Wednesday evening for a serious breach of his professional duties.
