Amnesty International is urging Nigerian authorities to investigate the alleged shooting death of Umar Muhammad, known as Gajiye, at a Maulid celebration in Banki, in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State. Witnesses cited by the organisation said the divisional police officer and his team first complained about loudspeakers, which organisers promptly disconnected. Police allegedly returned, dispersed the gathering and fired indiscriminately, killing Umar at close range. Amnesty called for an immediate, impartial investigation and fair trials for any officers involved.
