A 96-year-old man, Elder Stephen Okoye, on Wednesday led hundreds of residents of Umuenu Quarters in Umuawulu, Anambra State, in a protest against what they alleged was an attempt by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, to intervene in a land dispute already decided by the Supreme Court. Okoye, the oldest man in Umuenu, said the dispute between Umuenu and Enugwu Quarters over the fertile Agu Umuenu land had been ruled in favor of Umuenu by the Supreme Court in 1963. He accused Enugwu of trying to ignite a crisis by using the Deputy Governor, who handles boundary disputes in the state.
