Ania Referral Health Centre in Ituri Closed After New Ebola Infections

Ania’s referral health centre in the Aru territory of Ituri has been closed for a week after about 15 new Ebola infections, including among healthcare workers. The chain of transmission reportedly began with a patient from Haut-Uélé who tested positive at Ania and was transferred to a treatment centre, where he later died. About ten health workers and family members tested positive and are receiving care at the Ebola treatment centre in Aru; other suspected cases are being examined. Authorities have suspended the facility’s activities and begun decontamination, while stepping up prevention campaigns and calling for suitable protective equipment for health facilities.
