Anthropic posts $80bn loss in first half of 2026: WSJ

Anthropic, the artificial intelligence company behind the Claude chatbot, recorded a net loss of more than $80bn in the first half of 2026, the Wall Street Journal reported, as it prepares for an initial public offering. About $72bn of the loss reportedly came from accounting charges tied to changes in the value of convertible notes and other financial instruments issued to raise funding; the loss was $13bn a year earlier. The company said it could spend up to $750bn in coming years to expand its computing capacity. Its draft prospectus also lists risks involving potential harm from its products, including sophisticated cyberattacks and blackmail by uncontrolled models.
