Appeal court sacks Oluloro of Iloro-Ekiti, monarch heads to Supreme Court

An appeal court ordered the removal of Oba James Oluwafemi Olugbesoye, the Oluloro of Iloro-Ekiti, affirming a previous decision by the Ekiti State High Court. The judgment, delivered on August 31, 2026, stated that the monarch failed to perform the necessary traditional rites for his ascension to the throne. While his selection and appointment were deemed proper, the lack of sufficient evidence regarding the rites led to his removal.
