Argentina FA to Appeal World Cup Final Sanctions at CAS

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) said it would appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against FIFA sanctions over incidents after Spain’s 1-0 World Cup final win at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19. Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes received a 10-match ban and a $90,000 fine for his role in clashes with Spanish players, including Eric Garcia and Gavi. The AFA was fined $321,000 for disciplinary-code breaches, while Nahuel Molina, Thiago Almada and coaching staff member Roberto Ayala were also sanctioned. FIFA reduced Molina’s punishment from a seven-match ban and $90,000 fine to four matches and $60,000, but rejected appeals concerning Paredes and the AFA.
