Arsenal lose appeal against Dowman red card in shock Fleetwood defeat

Arsenal have lost their appeal against Max Dowman’s red card in their League Cup defeat to Fleetwood. The 16-year-old was sent off in the 85th minute for kicking out at Harrison Neal after a strong challenge; Arsenal went on to lose on penalties following a 1-1 draw. An independent Football Association commission rejected the club’s claims of wrongful dismissal and excessive punishment. Dowman will serve a three-game ban for violent conduct, starting with Arsenal’s Premier League match away to Liverpool on Sunday.
