Artemether-Lumefantrine designated as first malaria treatment for newborns and young infants

The World Health Organization has prequalified artemether-lumefantrine as the first antimalarial treatment specifically designed for newborns and young infants weighing between two and five kilograms. This designation will improve access to quality treatment for approximately 30 million babies born each year in malaria-endemic areas of Africa. Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that this advancement marks a significant change in the fight against malaria.
