On Monday, October 19, artisanal miners protested in Kolwezi against inspections at mineral processing facilities and buying outlets, which they say hinder the sale of their minerals and harm their work. Luilu, Kasulo, UCK, Tshala, Kanina, Musonoie and Kazembe neighborhoods, as well as the T17 road, were affected by disruptions to traffic and businesses. Vehicles were stoned, tires burned and passengers injured; several schools dismissed students early, while police used tear gas to disperse protesters. A few injuries were reported, but no official toll was available.
