Astou Pierre Ndiaye’s murder: What Mauritania will do with Alioune Badara Gaye

Alioune Badara Gaye, suspected of killing Astou Pierre Ndiaye, was arrested in Mauritania on Friday. According to the newspaper Libération, officers from Interpol’s National Central Bureau are due to collect him on Monday. In June 2026, Gaye allegedly confronted Ndiaye at her workplace and poured acid on her; she died of her severe burns on October 1 at Fann Hospital in Dakar. Calls for justice followed her death, and a march was held in Dakar.
