ASUU suspends strike threat as Taraba govt seeks two-week extension

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University, Jalingo branch, has accepted the Taraba State Government’s request for an additional two weeks to address its outstanding demands, suspending plans for industrial action. The branch had issued a 14-day ultimatum on August 13, 2026, which expired on August 26 without concrete action from the government. ASUU-TSU president Dr. Joshua Garba Mbave stated that the union agreed to the extension after an emergency meeting, but warned of potential strike reactivation if demands are not met by the deadline. He urged the government to demonstrate sincerity to maintain industrial harmony and an uninterrupted academic calendar.
