At least 49 people died of thirst in Niger's Sahara desert after their truck broke down, stranding them for days. The group was returning from Mali to celebrate Eid al-Adha when they ran out of water. Two survivors walked over 50 km to a water source and then to Assamaka to alert authorities. The bodies were buried in mass graves.
