Athens explosion: Six dead in blast near Acropolis in Plaka district

Six people, including a British national, died in an explosion that destroyed a building housing a holiday rental in Athens' historic center, in the Plaka district. The blast, suspected to be caused by a gas leak, led to the complete collapse of the three-story building, damaging neighboring structures. The victims include an elderly Greek couple and four American tourists, who were reported missing before their flight at Athens airport. Emergency services used excavators and thermal imaging cameras to search for survivors.
