Attackers kill nurse, injure health worker responding to DRC Ebola alert

A nurse was killed and another health worker was seriously injured in an attack on Saturday in Bafwasende, Tshopo province, while responding to an Ebola alert, the WHO said. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Africa regional director Mohamed Yakub Janabi condemned the attack and called for health workers to be protected. Local authorities have not yet commented on the incident or the suspects. More than 9,800 Ebola cases and 4,700 deaths have been recorded in the DRC since the outbreak began in May, while distrust and misinformation are hindering the response.

Ten resolutions approved by the State Council on Health include creating a health trust fund, strengthening surveillance and establishing an emergency fund for public health threats.
