AU: After Algeria, Benin Takes Over the CPS Presidency for September 2026

Benin assumed the presidency of the African Union's Peace and Security Council on September 1, 2026, succeeding Algeria. This month's work program includes sessions on the Central African Republic, the protection of child soldiers, and the link between climate change and security. A summit will take place on September 23 in New York, alongside the UN General Assembly, to discuss interstate tensions. Benin, elected to the Council since April 2026, had previously served during the 2020-2022 term.
