G20 Foreign Ministers denounce weaponisation of food supply chains

Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, G20 foreign ministers denounced government actions that restrict food trade to pressure another country over an unrelated geopolitical dispute. In a statement on Saturday, they urged the global community to agree that trade in food and agricultural products should not be used for economic or political coercion. Ministers also discussed secure energy flows, access to fertiliser and critical minerals, and ways to strengthen supply-chain resilience. Hosted by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio ahead of the G20 leaders’ summit in Miami, the meeting took place without South Africa, which the US did not invite amid bilateral tensions.
