Nakuru Begins Preparations to Host 2027 Madaraka Day Celebrations

Nakuru County will host the national Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1, 2027, at Afraha Stadium. Governor Susan Kihika announced that preparations have begun after meeting regional engineers from the Kenya Urban Roads Authority to assess road expansion projects in the city. A committee of county officials, KURA representatives and the County Commissioner’s office will oversee pedestrian facilities, modern drainage channels, streetlights and tree planting. Nakuru was selected under the policy of rotating national celebrations among counties; Homa Bay hosted Madaraka Day in 2025 and Wajir in 2026.
