During the night of October 21–22, 2026, the Tengréla detachment of the Special Surveillance and Intervention Brigade (BSSI) destroyed ten dredges used for illegal gold mining in Kanakono, in the Bagoué region. The operation followed reports of mining equipment on the river near the Côte d’Ivoire–Mali border, and officers swam to the site to avoid alerting the miners. The miners fled, leaving their work boats behind; the equipment was gathered on the Ivorian bank and destroyed. Dredges remaining on the Malian side are under continued surveillance.
