Ballon d’Or: Harry Kane crowned, Alexia Putellas wins a third

Harry Kane won the Ballon d’Or on Monday, becoming the first English player to claim the award since Michael Owen in 2001. The 33-year-old Bayern Munich striker finished ahead of Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappé after scoring 73 goals in 65 appearances for club and country last season. Alexia Putellas won the women’s Ballon d’Or for the third time, recognized for her part in Barcelona’s successes before joining London City Lionesses. The first Ballon d’Or ceremony held in England began nearly an hour late because of traffic in London.
