The €48.1 million (approximately 31.6 billion FCFA) mobilized by the European Union between 2013 and 2024 helped the Cameroonian banana sector improve yields, reduce losses, and modernize infrastructure. The Banana Support Measures Program (MAB) was designed to assist the sector in adapting to market changes following tariff reductions and increased competition from Latin American producers. The European Commission warned that the sector’s survival depended on increased investments amid declining tariffs on bananas.
