Bangladesh’s mango diplomacy with India has reached its limits | Opinions | Al Jazeera

Since the mass uprising in July 2024 that ousted Sheikh Hasina’s increasingly authoritarian rule, Bangladesh has relied on soft diplomatic gestures like mango exchanges, hilsa festivals, textile exhibitions, and cultural programs to keep communication open with India. However, these efforts have proven insufficient to address core issues such as shared water disputes and political trust. While soft power has temporarily prevented a complete breakdown in relations, it cannot resolve the deeper geopolitical and security challenges between the two nations.
