Barcelona fined €602 over approach for Atlético Madrid’s Álvarez

The Spanish Football Federation fined Barcelona €602 after Atlético Madrid complained about the club’s approach to Julián Álvarez, who is contracted to Atlético until June 2030. Proceedings established that Barcelona sporting director Deco spoke with agent Fernando Hidalgo on May 15, 2026, before Atlético received written notice on May 28; the federation classified the conduct as a minor infringement, and Barcelona can appeal. FIFA declined to hear Atlético’s complaint, saying it lacked jurisdiction. Álvarez, who recently scored the winner against Deportivo La Coruña, admitted his comments about wanting to join Barcelona had angered some Atlético supporters.

He says his company works with governments to prepare such projects for private and institutional investment without using public budget funds.
