Bauchi begins payment of N10bn outstanding gratuities to retirees

The Bauchi State Government has begun paying overdue gratuities to retired civil servants who left between 2012 and 2016. Governor Bala Mohammed, represented by his deputy Auwal Jatau, announced that N10 billion has been allocated to clear the liabilities, which total N11.71 billion for both state and local government retirees. Payments will be made in phases, starting with 3,570 state retirees owed about N6.13 billion and 2,262 local government retirees owed N5.58 billion, with a focus on transparency and prioritizing elderly beneficiaries. The governor emphasized that this effort ends a long wait for retirees and addresses systemic injustice.
