A court in Bauchi State sentenced eight people to eight years in prison each for thuggery and disturbing public peace in Unguwar Dim, in Bauchi metropolis. Each convict may instead pay a fine of 370,000 naira. Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib said the arrests followed a complaint from the local Peace and Security Committee on October 14; a raid the next day arrested nine people and recovered weapons and illicit substances. The eight defendants were convicted after pleading guilty, and Police Commissioner Sani-Omolori Aliyu urged residents to report criminal activity.
