The BBC has announced 550 job cuts in news, nations, and TV and radio content as the first step of its £500m savings plan over two years. Measures include ending Radio 4's The World Tonight, reducing permanent presenters on Today from five to four with a single anchor on Saturdays, and merging production teams for Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg and Newsnight. Director-general Matt Brittin said these savings account for about £160m of the total target, with headcount reduction of around 1,800 to 2,000 jobs.
