BBC Investigation Links Elite Police Unit to Fatal Shots at Raila’s Farewell

A BBC Africa Eye investigation linked an elite police unit responsible for presidential protection to the fatal shootings during Raila Odinga’s farewell at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi in October 2025. Three mourners were killed, with victims Evan Kiche about 60 meters from the chaos and two others over 160 meters away, challenging claims that the shooting was part of crowd control. The investigation analyzed over 1,500 images and videos, and ongoing inquiries by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority have yet to hold anyone accountable.
