Beni: At least 24 civilians killed in attack attributed to ADF in Cantine-Aloya

At least 24 civilians were killed in an attack attributed to ADF rebels, launched around 11 p.m. Thursday in several parts of Cantine-Aloya, about 60 kilometres west of Beni in North Kivu. The attackers burned homes and businesses before retreating toward the forest. Joint FARDC-UPDF forces, supported by Wazalendo fighters, began pursuit operations on Friday morning as residents fled to Mabalako, Kyatsaba and nearby communities. Socio-economic activity was paralysed, and civil society urged authorities to strengthen security, noting that earlier warnings had failed to prevent the attack.

US Offers $50 Million for Information on Tren de Aragua Leaders

The United States has raised its total rewards to $50 million for information leading to the arrests or convictions of the three top leaders of Tren de Aragua, designated a Foreign Terrorist Organization in 2025. The reward for Yohan José Romero, known as “Yohan Petrica,” is now $20 million, while the offers for Juan Gabriel Rivas Núñez, alias “Juancho,” and Giovanni Vicente Mosquera Serrano, known as “Giovanni” or “El Viejo,” are each up to $15 million. US authorities say Romero leads the group, Serrano oversees its operations in the United States, Colombia and Central America, and Núñez directs its operations in Venezuela. Serrano is on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list and faces international cocaine distribution charges; former leader Héctor Rusthenford Guerrero Flores, known as “Niño Guerrero,” reportedly died in a joint US-Venezuelan airstrike in June 2026.
