Benin: 26 members appointed to oversee primary and hospital care

Benin’s health minister, Benjamin Hounkpatin, installed the members of the second terms of the National Council for Primary Health Care and the National Council for Hospital Medicine in Cotonou on November 6, 2026. In 2022, the WHO Regional Committee adopted an agenda to build resilient health systems, including by strengthening health ministries and national public health institutes. During the COVID-19 pandemic, 13 institutions in 11 member states and territories contributed to surveillance, laboratory systems, research, risk communication and policy advice.

The violence drove residents, including people being monitored after contact with Ebola cases, to flee, and response teams suspended planned activities on November 6 because of insecurity. Tedros said insecurity disrupts surveillance, care and contact follow-up while increasing the risk of the virus spreading.
