Benin: 46% of Citizens Consider Emigration According to New Afrobarometer Report – La Nouvelle Tribune

Nearly half of Benin's citizens have considered leaving the country, with 23% thinking about it strongly, 10% somewhat, and 13% a little. The percentage of those considering a strong departure increased from 20% in 2016/2018 to 23% in 2024/2025. Among potential emigrants, 32% would go to a neighboring country, 25% to Europe, and 23% to North America, while 61% rate living conditions as poor or very poor. Most Beninese support free trade, but awareness of the African Continental Free Trade Area (ZLECAf) is low, and perceptions of major powers like China and the US remain positive.
