On July 10, 2026, about fifty West African journalists signed a tribune in Jeune Afrique, coordinated by Reporters Without Borders (RSF), demanding the release of Hugues Comlan Sossoukpè, founder of the online media Olofofo, and his colleague Ali Moumouni. Sossoukpè was arrested in Abidjan on July 10, 2025, and transferred by private plane to Benin without regular extradition proceedings. RSF calls his arrest a 'pure and simple abduction' and his detention arbitrary. The signatories denounce prolonged detention without a fair trial, tarnishing Benin's democratic image.
